Since the start of The Elder Scrolls Online, the players are waiting for the island of Vvardenfell, known from the third part of the rolling game. In June 2017, the new chapter The Elder Scrolls Online Morrowind was finally released. What else is in the extension, you read in my preview.
2015 would have been the great year of The Elder Scrolls Online. Skyrim was still a giant success, the interest in Bethesda’s fantasy game was as great as never before, and fans had been waiting long years for the opportunity to go together for the adventure. I also announced full anticipation for the closed beta, was lucky enough to get one of the coveted places and threw a glance at the online realm for the first time. After an intense beta weekend but then the disillusion: ESO feels too much like an online role playing game and too little like a real Elder Scrolls. In addition, developer Zenimax put on the then already outdated model monthly subscription fees. For me the decisive factor was to let ESO be for the first time but another: although the game was to make the whole continent of Tamriel playable, Vvardenfell, the play area from The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, was missing Is always regarded as the best part of the rolling game series.
Two years later, Elder Scrolls Online is now well on the way to finally becoming the game, which many players – including myself – wanted to release. Not only that the subscription fees have been abolished and the game has been extended by numerous new contents, most recently the Housing Update Homestead, in June 2017 the latest chapter Morrowind finally also shows the missing play area.
Chapter? Hot additional content because not normally extension? Correctly, an expansion, as one knows it from about World of Warcraft, Morrowind is however not. The new content and areas are therefore not reserved for the high ranking players, but can be used by every player from the beginning. Already since the Update One Tamriel in October 2016, such level limits are past. In the end, this means that you can also go online with Elder Scrolls Online at any time, and you can go straight to your favorite area without any major detours.
The biggest innovation of the Morrowind chapter is the island of Vvardenfell itself. It was created based on the original files of 2002, so veterans should be known every step from the beginning. Really every step? Not quite, because The Elder Scrolls Online plays 700 years before the original game. The Red Mountain, a mighty volcano in the middle of the island, has not yet transformed the flora into the then known Ascheland, but instead it flourishes in numerous, then desolate places. Overall, Vvardenfell is about 40 percent larger than the Orsynium area, making it the largest zone in the entire game.
The main quest of the chapter is to deal with you for 30 hours. In this, the diseased God Vivec must be saved. If this dies, so is also Vvardenfell dedicated to the doom. Fans of the old school know Vivec, of course, still from the original Morrowind and can also look forward to a whole lot of other Aha moments and reunion. This is how you enter the island in the port of Seyda Neen, exactly as it was fifteen years ago. As before, you will be received by a soldier who registers all new arrivals.
Even those who have not played Morrowind, but have already had a lot of adventures in The Elder Scrolls Online, can look forward to one or the other known face. Thus, at the beginning of the new chapter, Naryu Virian will take you by the hand. The Dunkelelfin has already played a role in the previous chapters, even talking in her own home country. Through their contacts, you will support the Morang Tong in Morrowind, the Assasin Guilds, which provide the political balance between Telvanni and Redoran on Vvardenfell, the three dominant houses of the island. Officially you can not join the exclusive club however.
But there are some more content in Morrowind. The first new character class, the Warden, has been waiting for fans since the release. Similar to the hunter in World of Warcraft the Warden is a very natural class. For instance, as a permanent companion, a bear is at his disposal, who can carry out a strong fight. The three new skills cover all game styles equally: Winter’s Balance is suitable for tanks, Green Balance for healer and Animal Companion is the biggest damage.
Zenimax also introduces the new PvP mode Battlegrounds. In contrast to the previous big battles, there are only three teams of four. Ideal for the short battle between.
